Methodology
LinkedIn ranked businesses in the seven areas mentioned above based on their data. The following are the categories they used to define them:
- Based on defined job titles, Ability to Advance monitors employee advancements within a business and when they transfer to a new organization.
- Using defined LinkedIn skills, skills growth examines how workers throughout the business are acquiring abilities while working at the company.
- The proportion of workers that remain at the business for at least three years, as well as attrition during the previous year, are tracked by company stability.
- External opportunity examines recruiter outreach to the company’s personnel, indicating a desire for workers from these firms.
- Company affinity focuses the employee connection volume on LinkedIn, adjusted for company size, to determine how supportive a company’s culture is.
- Gender variety refers to a company’s gender balance.
- Finally, educational background analyzes the range of educational attainment among workers, from no degree to Ph.D., indicating a commitment to hiring a diverse workforce.
Companies must have at least 50 workers in the city by April 30, 2021 to be eligible, and staff losses (including attrition and layoffs) cannot exceed 10%. (based on LinkedIn data and public announcements, respectively).
While LinkedIn’s annual Top Companies list includes only parent companies (data on majority-owned subsidiaries are incorporated into the parent company score), the city lists separate out subsidiaries from their parent companies. All data counts are normalized based on company size across the pool of companies eligible for the list.
May 1, 2020 through April 30, 2021 is the methodology’s time period. All of the data is de-identified and/or aggregated.
All employment and recruitment companies, educational institutions, and government agencies were barred from LinkedIn. LinkedIn, its parent firm Microsoft, and Microsoft subsidiaries were also banned.
