Over the past year, I have been trying to better understand a lot of things about the stock market. I have read a lot, but I haven’t found any concrete answers. So, I decided to take matters into my own hands. I started researching & then testing different strategies. This is the result.
If you own a vehicle, you are part of a growing number of car owners who are taking advantage of opportunities to maximize their profits with their vehicles. More and more people are realizing that they can make a significant amount of money by selling their car, or by renting it out and waiting for the right person to come along. Depending on the type of car you own, there are a variety of different ways that you can make money from your vehicle.
The value of your car is assessed by several different factors, including the vehicle’s age, mileage, condition, and previous mileage. However, the most important factor when assessing the value of your vehicle, is the condition of the vehicle as a whole. For example, if you take a vehicle that is in good condition and drive it for 30 years, and it becomes a classic, the value of the vehicle should be assessed based on that condition alone.. Many people wish to supplement their income with a side hustle. One way to achieve this is to use your vehicle to transport people or goods to various locations.
Many folks have their own cars and like driving them around. Using your own vehicle to deliver people and goods is a terrific way to earn some extra cash. There are even ways to make money with your car that don’t require you to drive it!
So, in this article, we’ll look at a few different ways to earn money while driving your car.
1. Use a car to transport people.
The most well-known option to get additional money with your vehicle is to drive people about like a cab. You’ll need a car for this side hustle.
With the advent of Uber and Lyft (along with other competitors), it is now feasible for any driver to act as a phantom taxi driver. You can apply for an account if you have a car and a valid driver’s license. When you’re ready to drive, you can activate your app and make your services available to potential consumers. The customer must then be picked up and dropped off somewhere else. You’ll get compensated based on the distance you drove with your customer.
Many people in the United States drive Uber as a full-time career, and many more do it as a side business. While you won’t be able to make a lot of money with Uber, the entry hurdle is low.
Unfortunately, in Switzerland, it is not so simple. First and foremost, I am only aware of Uber doing this in Switzerland. In our country, Lyft has yet to launch. And I’m not aware of any other opportunities for you to drive for them. Despite this, Switzerland has roughly 400’000 Uber users. And it’s only going to get worse.
Uber is also experiencing a lot of opposition from the government and labor unions. Uber employees are, in fact, exploited by numerous people. They also want Uber to acknowledge its drivers as employees rather than contractors. That is something I do not dispute. This isn’t necessarily good news for folks who only want to drive for Uber for a few hours per week. This argument has raged for a long time, with numerous judicial battles.
Then there’s Uber, which only operates in a few large cities like Lausanne, Geneva, and Zurich. As a result, if you live in a smaller city, you may not be able to find Uber trips.
It’s difficult to predict how much money you’ll be able to make. The only source I discovered (in French) stated that the hourly rate was around 27 CHF net. This appears to be reasonable. However, I wouldn’t be surprised if it were lower. You must also factor in the time when you do not have a ride.
Nonetheless, if you enjoy driving and have a car, driving for Uber could be a good side income.
Just to be clear, I have never worked for Uber and have never used any of the strategies I offer in this article! Driving is something I despise. However, I believe that these are interesting methods to make money, and I know that my readers are interested in learning more about alternative side hustles.
2. Provide food or other goods
Uber Eats could be a terrific option for you to generate money with your car.
The second option is to transport meals or products using your vehicle. The benefit is that you can perform the deliveries on a scooter or a bicycle, eliminating the requirement for a car.
There are numerous services for which you can deliver in the United States or other large countries, such as UberEats, DoorDash, or Instacart. Unfortunately, it is more difficult in Switzerland. I’ve only found one service for which you might be able to deliver: Uber Eats.
You may use Uber Eats to deliver food to customers while riding your bike or scooter. You’ll have to go to a restaurant or a store and pick up a customer’s order. After that, you must deliver the order to the consumer. It takes more effort to get out of your vehicle than it does to get folks in. However, the fact that you can do so without a car is a plus.
Once again, it is preferable to live in a city than than a countryside.
It can be difficult to predict how much you will be paid. In significant cities in Switzerland, Uber Eats is anticipated to earn around 20 CHF to 25 CHF per hour. Nonetheless, for many folks with some spare time and a bicycle, it may be a fun side hustle.
It’s worth noting that the laws may vary based on which city you’ll be working with Uber Eats in. In Geneva, for example, Uber delivery people are considered employees, not independent contractors, as they are in most other cities. However, in the future, this may change in other cities.
In the coming years, this market will grow as more and more stores begin to deliver meals. COVID-19 has simply increased the size of that segment, which will only grow in importance in the future.
3. When you are not using your car, rent it.
The third approach to supplement your income with your vehicle is to rent it out while you are not using it.
There have been a number of services where people can temporarily hire their car to others over the years. If you don’t drive your car all the time, it’s a fun way to generate money. If you only drive your car a few days a week, for example, you may consider renting it out the rest of the time.
This side hustle has the advantage of being much more passive. You are not need to drive. Your car is being driven by others.
In Switzerland, there is one service that allows you to accomplish this: 2EM is an abbreviation for (only in French and German). You can rent your car and decide the price yourself:
- The daily price
- The reductions for lengthy periods of time
- The per-kilometer rate
You can use your own insurance if your automobile insurance already covers damage while renting it out (most insurance will not). Otherwise, 2EM will offer its own insurance policies to cover the vehicle. In that instance, the drivers will pay a greater fee. As a result, you may need to reduce your prices to remain competitive.
You could theoretically do it yourself by placing adverts on the internet. However, it’s unlikely that you’ll be able to attract a large number of customers. So, rather than cutting out the middleman, I believe it makes more sense to use such a service directly.
4. Transports passengers on long journeys
If you’re going on a long trip, try to enlist the help of some passengers to split the costs.
Because you can’t grow these excursions unless you make a lot of them, this isn’t really a side hustle. However, it could be a smart method to cut costs on your travels. If you’re going to undertake a lengthy trip anyhow, bringing one or more passengers with you could save you a lot of money. It may also be interesting for some people to not do it alone.
In Switzerland, there are a number of services that can assist you with this. But the one about which I’ve received the most positive feedback is BlaBlaCar. In Switzerland, they already have a large user base and a large number of rides offered.
If you have a long journey ahead of you, you can post it on the internet and charge each passenger separately. Passengers can then book a seat for the journey. BlaBlaCar will pay you after the trip is completed.
If you make these travels on a frequent basis, this might save you a lot of money.
This is not ideal for your everyday commute because you would have to register each of your excursions outside of the app. There are also certain services in several nations where you can carpool for your commute. However, in Switzerland, I have yet to find one that works effectively. Please let me know if you know of any good ones in the comments section below.
If you enjoy driving your car, bike, or any other vehicle, it may be intriguing to use it to supplement your income. Driving your vehicle can be used for a variety of side hustles.
You’re not going to get rich doing that, as always. However, if you have some spare time and need additional cash, these could be fun methods to supplement your income.
As the article shows, there are only a few services in Switzerland that will do so. There are many more ways to make money with your car in the United States. However, we are essentially confined to Uber in this area. Let me know if you have any additional ideas for making money with your car in the comments section below!
You should keep in mind that driving your vehicle more often will cause it to wear out sooner. As a result, there is a financial cost to using your car for money (other than the obvious fuel costs).
Again, I believe this is only appealing to those who enjoy driving. Doing so would be a nightmare for me because I despise driving and I despise cities! However, I am confident that this will assist some folks!
