Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs) are tax-advantaged savings plans that allow you to avoid paying taxes on certain medical expenses. These costs include prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and other medical supplies. Before you go to the CVS next time, check the list of purchases covered by your plan to see what you can buy. Not all medical purchases are covered. So make sure everything is in order before you use your plan. You may need to provide receipts and, in some cases, a letter from your doctor confirming medical necessity.
