CVS is a pharmacy with a long history of partnerships with drug manufacturers that make it a prime target for criticism. The latest, of note for the health conscious, is a new promotion that offers discounted prices on some of the major weight loss medications. The list of items that can be purchased at the discounted prices is extensive, including Phentrimine and Yerba Prima. If you’re looking for a way to bring down the cost of some of the best options in the weight loss industry, CVS is a great place to shop.

This week I’m going to talk about some money saving tips for CVS shoppers. I can’t take all the credit, these tips come from the CVS Moneywise magazine.

CVS is a one-stop shop for prescription and over-the-counter medicines, as well as a wide range of home and personal care products. If you go to CVS often, you can buy a lot of stuff in one visit, but your bill can add up quickly. Fortunately, there are many ways to cut costs at your favorite drugstore chain. Here are 14 ways to save money at CVS. Photo credit: AsiaPix.

1. Use your FSA or HSA

word-image-5350 Flexible spending accounts (FSAs) and health savings accounts (HSAs) are tax-advantaged savings plans that allow you to avoid paying taxes on certain medical expenses. These costs include prescription drugs, over-the-counter drugs and other medical supplies. Before you go to the CVS next time, check the list of purchases covered by your plan to see what you can buy. Not all medical purchases are covered. So make sure everything is in order before you use your plan. You may need to provide receipts and, in some cases, a letter from your doctor confirming medical necessity.
